"It's so good to be home"

I hoped to hike along the dikes to the False Cape Wildlife Refuge in Va. Beach today. However, due to seasonal closures I had to stay north of the refuge, spending my time searching for wild pony and pig. But, all I found were hoof prints and mounds of shit.Despite the unexpected set back I found blanket warmth and solace near the dunes, eating lunch with the gulls. The surf was calm, breeze light, sun bright. It was a beautiful way to spend a "winter" afternoon.
Coming home is never as fully realized until I see the ocean. It spreads peace across my skin immediately. My time in the mountains is still long, but I'd love to find more bodies of water in my horizon and home. The sea will always be there, whenever I need it.

its nice to know we spent our christmas holiday wandering along beaches on different sides of the earth. i believe you introduced me to False Cape. i have fond memories of that place, an excellent place to find some solitude back in Hampton Roads. i returned twice by myself in the summer of 2004. Once, for a bike ride and a little nude swimming on an empty beach. the other time, to kayak and enjoy lunch on a different secluded beach. come to think of it, i ate a nectarine that day.
i wish we had proper beaches in this country. we spent new years day at the sea, on the rocks and stones, and it was bracing. the sea is spooky. when we came rolling over the hill into the valley to see the sea spread out ahead like a wet, massive picnic blanket I became frightened. its power is beyond my nerves." But, all I found were hoof prints and mounds of shit" which is often the case, and isn't it better?!
